Abstract
Many literatures concerning the plasma and liver lipids in adult stage of rabbits under normal conditions have been reported, but those in early developmental stage can hardly be found. This paper describe the changes in body and liver weights and concentration of plasma and liver lipids from birth to the weaning period in rabbits.
1. The body weight is growing linearly whereas the liver weight is increasing exponentially during first 5 weeks of life.
2. There is no significant difference in plasma cholesterol concentration between rabbits of adult ages and those at birth. The concentration of plasma lipid phosphorus at birth in rabbit, however, is half of that in adult rabbit.
3. The plasma cholesterol level showed sign-ificant increase at the end of fourthweek of life and then the value begin to fall gradually until the end of the 5th week. After 5th week the level begins to elevate again and reached about same value of adult at 10th week.
4. The cholesterol coptent of liver tissue at birth is half of adult rabbits and gradually in-creased with breast feeding until the end of 4th week, and the lotvest value during experimental period is observed at the end of 5th week. The level of lipid phosphorus at birth is lower than adult rabbit it seems however the concentration of lipid phosphorus is gradually aproaching to the value of adult rabbit during the growth without fluctuation in spite of the change of feeding formula.
